What Is Cloud World?
Each new character (dwarf) begins in his (or her if you would like to edit the dwarf picture to look more feminine...) personal CW.
It is a small but safe place where you can work on your skills -- no other players can do anything to you while you are there.
Once you feel you are finished in CW, you may want to leave CW by jumping from an edge. To get to the edge you may either:
- Chop down a piece of the default fencing completely (it takes a while but you should see the fencing's "health" decrease -- also you may see a message saying that your thirst causes you to swing recklessly indicating that you are not chopping as efficiently as someone who has less thirst) or
- Construct a gate and put it on a piece of fencing you would like to walk through
What Can Be Done in CW
- Die
- Plant, tap, age, and harvest trees
- Dig holes
- Whittle anything
- Construct anything including roads
- Buy/sell items from/to the shop
- Build/use/explode outhouses then collect the resulting poo -- if you have the gold, magazines provide excellent reading material in outhouses
- Chop down the fencing to give yourself more room
- Build fencing (it is recommened to not completely build the fencing but instead retrieve it back into your inventory by using a shovel if you would like to work on improving your construction skill) -- all fencing in CW remains at stage 1 (it does not rot so it does not need refreshing)
- Plant and harvest radishes (depending on who you ask, other crops are not recommended until your farming skill is over, some might say well over, 100)
- Plant creeping red fescue grass and place ground hoards on the grown grass (while statues can be placed on the grass, it is not recommended because only one can be in your inventory when you jump, and placing a statue on grass resets its value and usefulness)
- Use workers
- Place birdhouses on any tree except horse chestnuts
- Use birds (except for hawks -- and using another player's passenger pigeon while in CW is essentially jumping) and squirrels once they appear (although there is little practical use for any of these besides maybe wood ducks and squirrels)
- Place hackling machines, spinning wheels, rope machines, and weaving looms (these are not recommended because they are expensive and take a long time to use/remove so they are usually wasted space) to use for textile and weaving skills (after preparing the hemp stalks appropriately)
- Throw items off the edge into the clouds (but selling unwanted items is recommended)
- While many things may be put up for auction, only members may participate in the bidding and receive gold from selling items via auction
- Members can use dowsing sticks and may be able to use spring wells
What Cannot Be Done in CW
- Place birdhouses on horse chestnut trees
- Place idols on trees higher than level 25.
