Exploring

An activity some players never partake of, exploring is often entertaining and gives the explorer a better idea of the type of area they live in.

Exploring can be done for many reasons - but the basics required for success are all the same:

  • If you can, carry a PP with you so that when you are finished there is no long trek back home again - this is a must for confident exploration further afield, although for the local area you can probably cope without.
  • Healing items are a must - these allow you to travel faster, and to more remote areas, as you are not tied down by the locations of healing trees, and you will not have to wait for your health bar to regenerate (unless you are full)
  • A shovel and some way of producing an outhouse (either outhouse materials, or planks, or wood - balsam fir is sensible as you may have to dig the hole with limited health) are very important, as they allow you to empty out ready to eat more healing items - you can't always rely on wayside stops being available.
  • Planks or wood of a reasonable level are often useful to replaced broken roads on your journey - if you can't make a decent level planks or don't intend on replacing broken roads you don't need this.
  • A Flaming Fungus is usually also a good idea, as with all that walking your health could drop rather rapidly - this is just a precaution, like a parachute on a passenger plane, you hope you don't have to use it, but it is there in case it is needed.

Exploring can be dangerous to inexperienced players, as you are constantly using up health, and may end up getting lost or trapped - but for more experienced players it's an enjoyable activity to while away the hours waiting for those workers to finish, or that set of trees to mature.
