Jumping (TW2)

Not to be confused with Jumping in TW1

Jumping in Toadwater 2 is very different from jumping in Toadwater 1. While they are both the act of leaving Cloud World for the rest of the world, the mechanism for doing in each so is wholly different from the other.

What to do when I jump

While jumping in Toadwater 1 affected where you would land and most likely the general area in which you would permanently reside, jumping in Toadwater 2 (no matter where you jump) will always take you to South Winter Island. There, you will follow a sign to a cave (You can see the cave from the point you land).

Inside the cave, there are portals, which take you to different parts of the Toadwater 2 world. The position of the portals in the cave is roughly representative of the position of the portal it corresponds to on the Toadwater 2 World Map. While it is important that you pick the portal you'd like to go to, the portals work backwards! If you accidentally enter the wrong portal or reconsider your decision, you can always go back to SWI the way you came.

When to Jump

At the time of this writing (October 19, 2011), most of the land in Toadwater 2 is available! There's an abundance of land that has both volume and strategic value. If Toadwater 1 is any indication, the most valuable resource in Toadwater is and will be land. Therefore, it is to your advantage to jump as early as possible. Level 50 is the commonly recommended lower level, but a better indication is probably how much you have in resources: scope out the land you want on the map and figure out how much fencing you'll need (each pixel corresponds to one game tile). Once you have this amount of fencing (perhaps more), that is a good indicator of when to jump. It might also be worth it to bring some food along with you, if you can.

Remember, if you are unsure about whether to jump, perhaps you could contact someone and ask whether you could be their neighbor. The people of Toadwater are usually relatively friendly.

What to Take

If you can't take everything, take things that are hard to whittle and wood, as well as fencing. If you don't already have relatively high quality tools, bring some sap (level 3 is not high quality; it will take you forever to pound in fences with a level 3 mallet. ;) ). However, you don't need every little luxury in life like a couple compost worms or your chickenheart peppers or your axe (you can always rebuy it).

If you can manage to find a lot of food, do it. This is extremely important, especially if you plan on making a long pilgrimage to your future base location.

Above all, your biggest resource is other players. You could offer services to them or just ask for help and advice.

Portals

Do you know where you want to go on the map? If so, here's the guide to getting there from the portal room!
