Introduction

mIRC is one of the most popular IRC clients, as an IRC client is required for connecting to the Toadwater chatroom, the following are detailed instructions on joining the toadwater channel in mIRC:

Setting up mIRC

First of all, install mIRC (which you can download from the mIRC download page. Once installed open it up (you will have the option to launch mIRC straight after you have installed it.) and you will be confronted with the mIRC options window, which looks like this:

Now you need to fill in the four empty boxes with your details. Remember, these are made public when you connect to a server, so put in an e-mail address that you don't mind other people finding (or a fake one).

Once you have entered your details, you need to go to the Servers section, as indicated in the following image:

Now you need to select SorceryNet from the dropdown list, as this is the network which the Toadwater channel is on, as follows:

Once you have selected the correct network, click on the button labelled "Connect To Server":

Now mIRC will connect to the server, and once it has done so you will see your Favourites window pop up:

The list of channels in this window is a default list, and you can happily delete all of the channels there, most of them won't even exist on SorceryNet! The next thing to do is to join the Toadwater channel, #toadwater. You do this by simple typing #toadwater into the box at the top, and clicking on the "Join" button:

Now you will be in the channel, and can get on with chatting to people.

Some extra pointers

  • You can join another channel by typing in /join #channel (obviously replacing #channel with the channel you want to join, i.e. #toadwater)
  • If you click on the button named "Add" in your favourites window, you can save #toadwater as one of your favourite channels, and if you tick the checkbox labelled "Join on connect" then mIRC will automatically join the channel when you connect to SorceryNet next time!
  • You can change your nickname at any time by typing in /nick newnick (obviously replacing newnick with your desired nickname).
    • Bear in mind that two people cannot have the same nickname, and some people register their nicknames, so you can't pretend to be them.
