Workers

Workers are used in Toadwater to do a number of jobs that may be time consuming, health intensive, or otherwise arduous.

Hiring Workers

Each player can hire up to 3 workers at a time from the pool of workers shared by all players in Toadwater. A worker can be hired for a minimum of 0.1 and maximum of 11 diddies. When the time is up (or if the worker has not been assigned a job for the last diddy), the worker automatically leaves to return to the pool. You can rehire a worker currently in your employ when the worker has less than 1 diddy of remaining time (the remaining time of the worker is lost). If a worker runs out of time after completing, say, 42% of a job, the job will remain at 42% complete when the worker leaves. The exception to this paragraph are personal workers.

Worker Jobs

You can assign each worker multiple jobs which are broken into construction, farming, and forestry categories and based on the worker's respective skill levels. Their skill levels determine the cost to hire them and the speed at which they work. Your management skill also affects their working speed and, in the case of cutting down a tree, the tree's yield.

Construction jobs:

  • Erecting fencing -- select the worker in the Worker window, select a mallet in your inventory, then select any unbuilt fencing in view (note that a worker can be assigned to any fencing that is on the ground but the player who placed it on the ground will still own the fence)
  • Destroying your own fencing -- select the worker, select an axe in your inventory (mallet may work, also), then select any finished fencing in view (note that a worker cannot be assigned to destroy fencing owned by another player)
  • Destroying a road -- select the worker, select an axe, then select any road in view
  • Erecting a dock -- select the worker, select 5 dock construction kits, then select an appropriate location

Farming jobs:

  • Fertilizing -- select the worker, select a fertilizer, then select an appropriate location
  • Destroying Crops -- select the worker, select a tool, then select the crop you would like destroyed

Forestry jobs:

  • Cutting down a trees -- select the worker, select an axe, then select a bare tree (note that when the worker has felled a tree, the worker will leave a pile of wood and seeds that can be picked up by anyone who steps on the pile)

Mousing over a worker's job will indicate at least +% complete and the worker's name.

With a few exceptions, workers will move onto their next job when their current job is completed or stopped.

To stop a worker from working on a job, you can start to do the job yourself or walk into/onto the square where they are working -- this applies to all workers, not just your own. Once a job is stopped, it can be completed by whomever could normally do the job (typically you) or it can be assigned to a worker.

You cannot assign a worker to a job of any type on a square with an inactive player.

The worker window will show [# of jobs assigned] Worker Name (current job % complete since last screen refresh) for each worker you have hired.

Mousing over workers in the worker window will indicate their remaining metric time and their coordinates.
