The term Toadwater Client refers to the software which you use to play Toadwater. You can download the latest version from the Toadwater website here.

Structure
The client is split into a series of windows which contain all of the tools and information you need to play the game. When you first open the client most of these windows will be visible and they can all be resized and moved around the screen.
The client remembers the placement of windows on your screen, so it is well worth spending some time organising the client the way you want it. Because the client can be rearranged, some of the images on this page may not look exactly the same as your own client.
Main Window
Info Center
The Info Center is your main source of information about your character. It is separated into four sections, each holding different information about your characters current status.
Core Information
In the top section you will see your characters name, this is your display name rather than your login name. Your characters display name can be changed in your profile settings on the Website.
There are then 5 further pieces of information.
- Your characters age in years and days.
- The XP required to gain a level
- The Gold you are holding
- Your Locus (current location using the coordinate system)
- Your speed
You can also find out your total XP by hovering the cursor over your XP to level, your total XP will appear as a tooltip.
Skills
This section shows your current level in each of the games skills. Ordinarily the skills are displayed in black, and this is your actual level in that skill.
Whilst under the effect of certain buffs though your skills may appear in green. This value then is your skill level after the buff effect is applied, so it is the skill level you are currently working at. Once the buff runs out the skill will return to it's normal value and become black again.
When a skill buff is in effect you can see how much it is adding to your skill level by hovering over that skill with the cursor, it will appear as a tooltip. The tooltip will also show how much longer the buff will last in brackets.
Vitals
One of the most important sections of the client to keep your eyes on, the vitals section displays your current health, thirst and poo levels.
The health bar displays your current and maximum health values. Your maximum health is equal to your characters level. The health bar will be green when it is high, and gradually turn through yellow and to red when it is low. When your health is very low the bar will flash red.
You can adjust the point at which the color changes happen in the client through the client options menu (select File - Options, or press Alt-O).
The thirst bar is displayed as a percentage, from 0% up to 100%, and as your thirst percentage increases a blue bar will fill this area. Thirst works in reverse, so 0% actually means you are thirsty, and 100% means your thirst is fully quenched. For more information on the effects of thirst see the thirst page.
The poo bar displays your current and maximum poo levels, and fills with a brown bar. When you are full of poo you must empty your poo into an outhouse. There are a number of ways of getting a poo level above your maximum, there is no penalty for this but once your bar has reached the maximum there is no way to eat to regain health.
Action Queue
The client allows you to queue up to 7 actions at a time. The action queue section displays how many actions you currently have queued up. When performing multiple actions you must keep an eye on the action queue, as anything you try to do when you have a full queue will be ignored by the client.
Inventory
The Inventory (often also referred to as your Hoard) is the list of items you are currently holding. You can hold up to 20 different items at any time, and identical items will stack so that you can hold as many of them as you need to.
The Inventory window displays your current inventory, along with the quantity of each item on the left, and the value of each item on the right. You can also find the power of each item in a tooltip by hovering over it with the cursor. The power of an item has various different meanings, depending on what the item is.
The Inventory window also shows you which item you have selected. A selected item will be highlighted in green, and a selected empty slot will be highlighted in green and also display the word Empty in the center to make it clear you have selected the slot.
Selecting Items
Unlike the Info Center, the Inventory window is interactive. You can select and deselect items by clicking on them in the Inventory.
To select any item you simply click on it once, this will change your selected item and it will now be highlighted in green. To then deselect an item you click on it again. Now you will have nothing selected, so all of the inventory slots will be black. When nothing is selected your character has nothing but his hands, this is particularly useful for certain actions in the game which require a more hands on approach such as digging and hollowing.
You can also use keyboard shortcuts to select and deselect items. The inventory slots at numbered from 1-20, so typing "1" is the same as clicking on the first slot in the inventory. To select the 10th slot, you type the number "0", and to select the remaining slots you hold the shift key and type the relevant number.
For example to select the "(+8) Balsam Fir Sap" in the screenshot, you need to select the 19th inventory slot, so you hold Shift and press "9".
Moving Items
By default any new item added to your inventory will go into the first available empty slot. This is not always desirable, so your inventory can be rearranged.
To move items, first select them so that they are highlighted green. Then you can move them by selecting any empty slot. Because the first 10 items in your inventory can be more easily selected using keyboard shortcuts, it is common for players to put their most frequently used items such as thier Staff and Axe near the top of their inventory.
Toolbars
There are four button toolbars in the client, they allow you to perform a series of actions within the game. For every button there is a corresponding keyboard shortcut, and the majority of the buttons only work under certain conditions, such as having the correct type of item selected in your inventory.
Whittling
The whittling toolbar allows you to whittle items from wood. To use any of these buttons you must have wood selected in your inventory. In addition to this you can only whittle items if you have successfully whittled the same item at the previous wood level. Each button has a tooltip which tells you the name of the item, and the highest level at which that item has been successfully whittled.
If you fail an attempt at whittling an item you will have to wait before you can try again. During the wait period that button will be greyed out, and the tooltip will tell you how long you still have to wait before you can attempt to whittle that item again.
In order, the whittling buttons produce the following: Birdhouse, Mallet, Plank, Scutching Sword, Shovel, Tap, Post, Idol, Oar, Clog
Construction
The construction toolbar allows you to construct items. To construct Fences, Gates, Outhouses and Barrels you need to have a plank selected in your inventory. To construct Fence Repairs you need to have fences selected in your inventory. Gates require 2 planks to construct, and fence repairs require 2 fences. The other items only require 1 plank each.
Like the whittling toolbar, if you fail to construct an item then you will have to wait for a period of time before you can attempt again and during that time the button will be greyed out. The tooltip will tell you the name of the item as well as the wait time remaining if the button is greyed out.
In order, the construction buttons produce the following: Fencing, Fence Repairs, Gate, Outhouse, Barrel
Textile
The textile toolbar allows you to weave items. To weave you need to have either Maso Bamboo stalks selected and have Maso Bamboo seeds in your inventory, or have Cloth selected and have Yarn in your inventory.
The amount of textile material you need, and the items you produce when weaving vary depending on the type of material you are using. Maso Bamboo can be turned into Maso Bamboo Milking Gloves, or a Radish Basket. Cloth and Yarn can be turned into Milking Gloves or a Seed Bag of varying quality.
Misc
The misc toolbar has two additional buttons which are not related to producing items. The first button is the Island Hawk button, Hawks are members only content, for more information see the related article. This button can only be used when you are standing on clear ground.
The second button is the stop button. This will cancel all actions currently in the action queue, however it will not stop the action you are currently doing.

Popups
A player can and will receive popups randomly doing almost any kind of actions. Popups are used to prevent afk macroing. A popup requires the player to type in a 3-letter string. Popups can only contain numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and the letters A, B, C, D, E or F.
The popup in the picture has 5, E and 7 in it. Numbers 1 and 7 are the main cause of confusion among (new) players.
