Tree Lord and personal Staff

If you are a treelord of a specific tree can you walk on your tree without degrading your personal staff?  If you can't do it on a normally planted tree, can you do it on a tree that has been planted on a creeping red fescue grass lawn?

It seems like a neat idea for treelords to be able to build highways out of their tree.

Tree level added to chance to whittle items.  So at level 50+ you are getting 60%+ to whittle birdhouses and swords.
