Just because he is the bass player doesnt mean he had no influence in the writing of the music.

Yeah, though Josh Homme has always had a pretty Page-influenced sound, the guitar licks are Zeppelin-esque, but they always have had a pretty big Zeppelin influence in their sound.

Very true.  This is why I recomended it as decent rock music of this age since most of the late 90's and all of 2000 has lacked in their roots when it comes to sound.

Good rock is painfully hard to come by these days. Them Crooked Vultures and Queens of the Stone Age are probably my favourites from most recent years as well, but if you like josh homme check out his first major band Kyuss

The Vultures are pretty hot news from what I've heard, plus its interesting to see Dave back on the drums again.
I wish the Foo's came out with somthing more than a greatest hits album though.

What ^ said.  Some of the new Prog rock is pretty decent.  Check out Dream Theater if you havent herd them.

I agree with this post, except that Dream Theater is over twenty years old... Opening for Iron Maiden on their tour, though.

When rockers are dropin like flyes, 20 years is pretty young.

Is Dream Theater openin for Maiden now, or was that 20 years ago?

I've recently come across a rather nice folk band that sounds a lot like CSNY.  They've only released a single LP and an EP, but they are terribly talented.  I'd highly recommend them to anyone, I was extremely impressed with their sound considering they are a group from this century.

Edit:  I should probably mention the name of the band somewhere. . .  They're the Fleet Foxes, and they're quite nice.

Well, here's one of their more well-known songs, though that's saying very little.

Mykonos - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT-dxG4WWf4

They have a pretty diverse sound, here's an example of that.

He Doesn't Know Why - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brZTvGIzeGg

And this is an extremely impressive live performance of a song of theirs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1tbX_NJn98

It's much softer than the other bands recommended, though I enjoy it.

I like it dude.  Sort of reminds me of a Kansas or a moody blues vocal harmonies.

And hard does not mean better by any means.  The best music out there has been and always will be Billy Joel.
