Pet chicken would be nice.  Personally, I still want monkeys.

My parents are friends with a family that has a farm/ranch, and they have chickens. They're smelly and not very nice, but it was always fun to go and open up the back of the chicken coop to collect eggs when we would go to visit.

I do.
If you're ever in my neck of the woods, I've several roosters that you can gladly have. Usually once they reach a good size they end up on the table or in the freezer. I don't know why but lately we've been getting more roosters than hens.

Very cool.  Do they smell weird or have any strange habits?

It smells, but it smells like a farm so it is hard too tell between the shit filled field and the birds themselves.

They are weird animals. The look at you like they are smart, but sometimes it feels like they are just blankly staring at you just because you are there.

I would compare them to the mini-sloths in Ice Age 2 (I think 2 maybe 3).

Emus are usually ~6 feet tall. . Are you sure it's an emu farm?

Why go with emus when you can have a cassowary?

Yea, they also have Alpacas there.   Never seen one of those Cassowarys. Look freaky with the blue coloring, kinda like a mutant peacock or something.

They can be terribly aggressive, and one particular excerpt from wikipedia is pretty nice.

"The one documented human death caused by a cassowary was that of Phillip McClean, aged 16, and it happened on 6 April 1926. He and his brother, aged 13, were attempting to beat the cassowary to death with clubs. They were accompanied by their dog. The bird kicked the younger boy, who fell and ran away. Then the older boy struck the bird. The bird charged and knocked the older boy to the ground. While on the ground, Phillip was kicked in the neck, opening a 1.25 cm wound. Phillip got up and ran but died shortly afterwards from the hemorrhaging blood vessel in his neck.'"
