I also believe that not all continents should be grassed and that there should stilll be continents in the game that you can have the hope of fencing off. There isn't much hope of anyone in this game catching up on farming management or forestry anytime soon AT ALL - but saying that the top people in those skills can now hold them forever without even trying to maintain them is like admitting that those skills are impossible to attain which obviously they are not.
If the current player base doesn't even have 10% of the same chance to fence an entire continent in order to have gigantic efficient blocks to excercise those land heavy skills as the players who took rank #1 spots a long time ago, then the current player base isn't going to even bother with the skills further than a point. I reckon that grassing EVERY continent would not help the growth of the game, only if you also unranked the skills that are obviously now considered IMPOSSIBLE to catch up in you would encourage a new player base to become more competetive.

Aside from people questioning Clatra's actions and motives in various threads recently I did want to agree with that sentiment.

I just have a question that has been on my mind for a long time.  What does one do with an entire continent of land?  What actions does one do that justifies having that much land? I have 4 WS of land in total and I have found this amount of space to be more than adequate to get me into the top 50.  I feel I can better formulate my own opinion on government grass if I know why some people need an entire continent.  For now, I kind of like the ability to walk from continent to continent that government grass supplies as I am too poor to afford teleportation.

A shit ton of land is mainly for management, forestry and to a lesser extent farming.  Only those who spend time in those skills really understand the need or desire for an entire continent

I'm standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff — I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I'd do all day...

The other thing you do with a continent is build strong defenses and create communities that are (relatively) safe from raiders. Grassed communities are prime targets for raiders.

As for lots of land helping with skills, it primarily helps macroers do stuff like farming and forestry. Unfortunately at least 3 of the top 4 farmers used farming macros before there were popups so the popups now slow down folks clawing their way to the top.

Lots of land also helps those competing for high level treelordships -- WSs full of statues for new seeds (which is why I have always supported alternate ways to get new seeds so prevent this high cost of entry) and WSs full of trees for aging purposes.

Luckily there are edicts that can help shrink the gap between older less-active players and newer ambitious players. IMHO there should be edicts for every ranked skill and the benefit from those edicts should increase over time to help newer players.

Also IMHO if you are not interested in macroing or high level TLs, a few WSs is sufficient to compete in the rankings.

I have controlled continents before but I tend to open them up to folks who would find them exciting and enjoyable (ahem) or give them to trusted people.

And you accuse flint of controlling
