Title: Semi-Retirement Community
Post by: clatra on January 02, 2009, 05:52:19 am
I know a place. Where the grass is really greener. A place for TW veterans to retire or, more precisely, semi-retire. This is land I currently control and have very well protected. Part of that protection is that no one but me knows the design of the defenses or the location of the community -- but it is probably a good bet that it is behind my noob world fencing at one or more of the continents I control.

What do you mean retire?
Call it whatever you want but there are plenty of reasons why an active player would want to play less and have fewer responsibilities (and less fencing to maintain). There are also reasons why someone who is playing less should not hog land. But instead of resorting to guilt trips, I will instead try to appeal to less active vets in other ways.

Why would anyone ever want to retire?
Retirement is not for everyone. But shifting toward a more casual playstyle and worrying less about raiders may sound good to you in the future. My aim is to appeal to longtime players who are burning out, who have had major life changes, or who are willing to give up a bit of freedom for a lot of security.

Should I give up land that I have invested so much time into?
Having tons of land primarily helps if you are competing for a high level treelordship which is mainly for the very active players. This is probably not a reasonable goal for someone who is transitioning into a more casual playstyle so why bother trying? Do something that brings you more joy and less stress -- consider becoming semi-retired and giving your current land away.

Are there active players who could put my current land to good use?
Absolutely. I can help facilitate this as I know players who have expansion plans but would prefer not to raid or take land that would be better for new players' starter bases.

If I become a "retiree", what is expected of me?
  • Your land will have a tulip path around it -- you are free to build whatever you like inside the path but you must have at least 1 layer of fencing inside it.

Bump as a reminder for folks.

Soon it will be summer vacation for a lot of Northern Hemispherians which means some will increase their TW playtime while others will decrease.

Translation: You will be working, kids on summer break will be raiding you.
