Title: New Client Bugs
Post by: Travis on May 01, 2011, 09:03:35 pm
If you run into a bug with the new client, please post all the information here.  It's important to fully explain the problem so the problem can be accurately diagnosed.

Edit by Twisti: I'll edit your posts to make it easier to see what's fixed and what isn't. Strikethrough means I fixed it in an upcoming version, Italic means I need more information or a confirmation that a change in an upcoming version really fixed it.

Hi,

I found a few bugs:

- When I fail at constructing something it doesn't show the waiting time but it shows something like this:
Construct fencing(Remaining: 7 minutes, 4 seconds)(Remaining: 7 minutes, 4 seconds)(Remaining: 7 minutes, 0 seconds)(Remaining: 7 minutes, 0 seconds)(Remaining: 6 minutes,58 seconds) etc.

- Sometimes the screen gets darker outside my field of vision when I switch inventory items. This goes back to normal when I switch again.

-Maybe it's just me, but I can't see the duration of my radish/ gold radish buffs.

Other then that I didn't found anything yet...looking nice so far:P

I've had an infrequent problem with selecting items in my inventory. Sometimes, it'll deselect the currently highlighted item but not highlight the item I've clicked on. Othertimes it'll not even deselect my previously highlighted item. This often results with me setting a work on something I don't want a worker working on i.e. a path, fence etc.

One usual piece of information to know is that I've resized the inventory window smaller than the default size given when the client was first installed.

I also miss having my player name listed in the workers window :X. Call me old fashioned but I knew for certain I wasn't about to put a worker on something I didn't want to!

if you only have one worker selected, you can ctrl+left click that worker to deselect it.

Locus and Speed in the Info Center don't display anything.

While on Zoom 9, the client freezes if I try to do anything(move, switch items, etc. etc.)

While running the client through the debugger, I get exceptions while zooming.

JadeWolf has experienced the client shutting down by itself while simply walking around, during normal game play.  This has happened 4 or 5 times today.  No problems yesterday.
If it helps, she uses zoom 4.

I havn't experienced this myself, but as for me I hardly get any sound effects (walking with your staff, selecting items in my inventory, and so on), and the construction, whittling, textile, and misc buttons are missing their pictures (except for the seed bag image).  I think this is partly due to the fact that I'm using Windows XP  :-[

Other than this, no complaints.  Its a great client  ;)

This has happened to me a few times too. I've been meaning to run it in debug so I can send twisti the errors it gives.

Also, for me, I get too many sounds. The sounds que up and if I walk faster than the sound can play, when I stop it keeps playing the walking sounds for a while.

*Edit May 06 - My sound works fine now with the updated new client (1.0.1).  Thanks :D  I don't know how to cross this out or if I should shorten the post etc but all seems good for me now :D

*Edit - I've sent Travis my entire DxDiag.txt file in case that helps but if you need more than that just let me know :D

I'm getting no sound at all.

I've toggled the sound option on and off and restarted the client and still have no sound.  I've also rebooted my whole system.

I looked in the directory and I see it downloading sound files there (as the sound is *supposed* to activate) and can manually click to hear them, they're just not playing in the game for me.

I'm on Windows Vista 32 bit.  I have zero sound problems with anything else, the old client, any of the java clients I run daily.  Old client always has and still does play the sounds fine.

Um just let me know what info to look up to let you know.  For now I took this out of DXDiag:

Now that you mention it, Jade has had that happen too today.  Sorry I didn't post that earlier  :-\

I have noticed that the client has trouble highlighting the correct square outside of current field-of-view.  This problem only exists for me while the cursor is either north or west of FOV and is more pronounced in the northwest corner of the screen.  Side note: The farther out I zoom, the worse the distortion is.

So when you when you construct something, it shows a "Remaining time", and your complaint is that it doesn't show the waiting time ? I don't understand this bug report. It looks like it's doing exactly what it's supposed to. Could you please clarify ?

Fixed in 1.0.1

Fixed in 1.0.1

1.0.1 will be released come the weekend.

I will need more information about the inventory issue as I can't reproduce it so far. Do you use the number keys or the mouse to select items when this happens ?

As for the worker window, it always seemed awkward to me the way TWC did it, but I understand that unselecting workers now is awkward as well. How would you feel about closing the worker window to deselect workers ? It's quick to reopen with Ctrl+W if you need it again, do you think that would be a good way to deal with it ? Or does that seem even more awkward than the old way ?

I mean it shows a full line untill the end of my screen with this:
Construct fencing(Remaining: 7 minutes, 4 seconds)(Remaining: 7 minutes, 4 seconds)(Remaining: 7 minutes, 0 seconds)(Remaining: 7 minutes, 0 seconds)(Remaining: 6 minutes,58 seconds) ...

Maybe it goes on and on until the correct time, but I can't see it because it's outside of the screen.

Just checked. Even when I CAN construct something it still shows this line.

So just to clarify:
- I start tw, everything is fine.
- I fail something with construction. It will show the time remaining. But I guess instead of replacing the previous time remaining, it just adds it behind it like so:Construct fencing(Remaining: 7 minutes, 4 seconds)(Remaining: 7 minutes, 4 seconds)(Remaining: 7 minutes, 0 seconds)(Remaining: 7 minutes, 0 seconds)(Remaining: 6 minutes,58 seconds) etc.
- That line will stay even when I can construct again.
- I only goes away when I close tw it seems.

I notice this myself, especially if I am walking by my statues.  The screen will get dark as the statue will flicker and then go back to normal again.  Has anyone else noticed this?

Like I said, already fixed. It happens when a picture gets loaded after the map has already been painted.

I simply use mouseclicks. As mentioned it might be something to do with me resizing the inventory window and making it smaller. I never had such selecting issues with the old client and as no-one else has reported it I'm guessing it's thus far unique to me. I'll try upscaling the inventory window and see if the problem occurs still.

With regards to deselecting workers, could we not simply click the same worker again in the worker list to deselect it so that if no worker is selected, the player is undoubtedly selected?

Anytime I try to open the hire workers window, the action queue bar fills up 1 bar but the window never opens. The action never times out and I have to close the client to clear the action bar. I used the old client to hire workers.

UPDATE: As I was typing this, the hire workers window opened but it was literally a 5+ minute delay where I could do nothing else in the client. I don't know if this issue is limited to me or not.

Thank you, someone else finally has this issue.  It is the same problem with using the store and I was the only one complaining of this problem.  Just for the sake of covering every base, do you have a Toshiba?

Fixed JadeWolfs problems in 1.0.1, it's either the buggy sound or the buggy zoom with frames on. Your problem seems like your PC has trouble downloading things like pictures and sound files. Maybe an overly zealous firewall ? You can try to run the client with the (Debug) link that it installs to your All Programs/Toadwater JTWC and see if that prints any errors, those would be super helpful.

I cant hire more than 1 worker. When I try to hire a second, it tell me it only recognizes fields 1-9. Ive tried all the numbers and none worked.

And was wondering if we will be able to see the buff timers on the stats in the next version? Oh and the Toadee graphic is HUGE on swi, but it looks kinda cool that way ;)

1.0.1 on Linux:

- The umlauted character in my Baumm[oe]rder Axe does not display properly. [see attachment]

- I cannot use the 2, 4, 6 and 8 keys on my numpad for movement, although I can use 1, 3, 7, and 9 as well as the arrow keys.

EDIT:

- The degree signs in the Locus are not displaying properly in the Info Center, but they are for tile tooltips. The degree signs in the Weather window are also displaying fine.

- Unable to "share" sound. If I start Toadwater first, I cannot play my music after. If I start my music first, Toadwater will have no sound and repeatedly throw this exception:

javax.sound.sampled.LineUnavailableException: Audio Device Unavailable
   at com.sun.media.sound.HeadspaceMixer.nResume(Native Method)
   at com.sun.media.sound.HeadspaceMixer.implOpen(HeadspaceMixer.java:346)

   at bb.a(Unknown Source)
   at bk.run(Unknown Source)
   at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:662)

- Splash screen will occasionally freeze at "Loading image()" requiring me to kill the process and restart

- Client slowdowns. I am not sure if this is a client bug (it does not seem like it would be but I cannot be sure), but I here is all the information I have pertaining to it. Often I will queue up actions and they will not occur, they will simply stay queued. Sometimes they will occur after 5 - 10 minutes but usually they do not as I have let it run for an hour+ to see if it would send. This requires me to restart the client, which sometimes fixes it but sometimes I must simply take a break and try again later. Accompanying these slowdowns are often website slowdowns, accessing the website (forum, wiki) is either slow or impossible. I have pinged "toadwater.com" and the response time is ~145ms regardless if there are slowdowns or not. These occur on both of my Linux computer, but they are both on the same network.

I cannot place a new hang glider landing site. I can use the ones that are already placed, and I haven't tried removing one because I don't want to get stuck not being able to put it back down... When I try to place it, it queues an action, waits, then the action will un-queue, but nothing will happen.

Also, I'm pretty sure I know what's wrong with those timeouts - it's the same issue that arp and Flinnt had with specific pages, because the code I use to talk to the server is code I wrote years ago to pretend that I was the TW client, and as such it doesn't work quite right in some circumstances.

I do not believe so:

Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 19.1-b02, mixed mode)

There isn't a solution.  It's the client who is being fidgety with the action.

1.0.1 on Linux:

- I cannot use the 2, 4, 6 and 8 keys on my numpad for movement, although I can use 1, 3, 7, and 9 as well as the arrow keys.

Fixed in 1.0.2.

- Unable to "share" sound. If I start Toadwater first, I cannot play my music after. If I start my music first, Toadwater will have no sound and repeatedly throw this exception:

Fixed in by prefacing the Java command with "paspd".

- Splash screen will occasionally freeze at "Loading image()" requiring me to kill the process and restart

Are there any error messages accompanying this ?

- Client slowdowns. I am not sure if this is a client bug (it does not seem like it would be but I cannot be sure), but I here is all the information I have pertaining to it. This sounds like it might be a firewall/router issue. Have you tried running the old client, maybe in Wine, to see if it happens with that too ? Again, any error messages to go with this bug report ?

So not really a bug, or an issue, just something I noticed. I have my health colors set to default. When I'm at 85 health, it is yellow, like it's supposed to be. At 84 is turns red. At 83, it goes back to yellow. It only does this when it's right on the number, so, 84.1, or 83.9 are still yellow. Just an oddity.

I've also noticed that. It happens for me at exactly 101.5, so apparently it happens at 1/2 your health.

When I try to assign workers using the arrow keys, it uses manual labor instead. Like if I'm standing next to a tree with my works selected, and I select my axe and hit the arrow key to tell my worker to cut the tree down, it acts like my workers are not selected, and I manually shop the tree instead. Clicking with the mouse works fine.

In the newest (1.0.2) client, whenever I take over a worker's action (e.g. pounding in a fence they've been working on) I disappear and so do my workers. At least, just for that action. It's a very minor bug. I'm playing on a Mac.

This still needs to be fixed.

Also clicking the sell button toggles the Do Not Auction checkbox.

Bug: When I try to make a fence when I have fences already selected, nothing shows up at the news ticker, not even the news ticker. It's not supposed to.

Bug: When failing a fence repair action, the button tooltip for fence repairs still says it got time left after the timer is over and you can try again.

i don't get any map tile tool tips at all;  no coordinates, no tree age, no dwarf name, nothing. tooltips on the hoard or info center work fine, so i'm not sure what could be causing it.

i'm using openjdk6 build b22 on linux kernel 2.6.38.

cheers.

The default time for map tooltips to show up is longer than for other tooltips (2 seconds by default, I believe). Does it still not show up after waiting that long ?

Also, openjdk is a hacky bugged ass copy of Java. Try installing actual Java.

well, my first thought was "that's a little bit unfair, openjdk is based mostly on the same source code as regular java etc. etc"

except, uh, installing regular java fixed my problem. so. fuck.

also, text boxes don't wrap at all. for example, in the spring well quest, the pop up starting with "My son tells me" is so long that the 'OK' button is off screen. i tried this with the linux version, as well as with the installed windows version, so the problem is not my buggy ass hack os this time either.

i got a pop up request and i'm pretty sure it wants " 7 6 7" but it wont let me answer and when i closed and reopened the window i got a javaw.exe error, the game runs fine until i close the error message then the client shuts down

side note could you add a button that gives you a new  pop up to answer, this is the only application Ive seen that won't let you get new numbers and letters

thanks guys

Suggestions for next release(s):

In the Hire Workers window, change the last column heading from Hours to Diddies. Consider adding the option to enter hire times in either hours or diddies.

In the Combiner, allow the use of the enter key to combine items in addition to clicking the combine button.

Enable different background colors of all windows (Info Center, Hoard/Inventory, Workers, Whittling, etc) -- this is to minimize screen burn-in.

If there are timers associated with pepper buffs, have those added.

Consider a buff window instead of adding buffs to the title bar as there are a lot of possible buffs. If a buff window is a possibility, also consider adding active edicts in it.

I used an outhouse but the client still shows me on the square I was on just before I used the outhouse. After my stay in the outhouse, I moved out of it appropriately -- maybe just a display bug with outhouse usage? This did not happen in previous client versions.

FWIW Class 335 outhouse with Canopy magazine in it.

v1.1

Bug: @ 50% health, health bar changes to red then @ 49% health, health bar changes back to yellow. Seems to only happen @ 50% health. Note this has happened at various settings but I know it happens when options are set for green @ 100, yellow @ 50, red @ 30, and flashes below 30.

Bug: Openness/size/position of Combiner is not remembered upon exiting and reopening client.

Suggestion: Love the buff window. Might it also include debuffs (outhouse timer, anal spasm timer, hawk tiredness/scared timer, maybe even deaths, poison, and "thirst" impact) and then just be called a Status window or something?

When logging into a mule, workers do not update.
And when workers quit, refreshing them does not remove them from the worker box. Also, I have found no way to rehire workers even in the last diddy.

Sorry.  I should have cropped instead of shrinking the image.

It didn't capture the top of the info center appearing where the action bar is, but it did seem to capture the ticker appearing where the whittling/construction buttons are.  I tried moving them around, and it kept doing the same thing.

[edit] The map and windows seem to shift around as well, but as soon as I press anything on the keyboard or move the mouse they move back to normal.  I'm still not really sure if this is something with the client, or Jason's computer.  He tends to do weird overclocking and optimizing stuff on his PC.  Just kind of brought it up in case anyone else had ever seen anything like this before.

Title: Re: New Client Bugs
Post by: Lackey Twisti on September 13, 2011, 01:51:59 am
I think I'm going to blame his computer - what the Whittling view does is obviously super buggy, and they are completely generic Java views, there is no custom code with those that I could have messed up. What you could try is run the game through the debug link and see if it spits out any text (if it does, I'd love a paste or a screenshot of it).

Title: Re: New Client Bugs
Post by: [rebel]Demonoid on September 13, 2011, 02:28:10 am
I'll give it a shot tomorrow (I just got home, so I don't have access to his computer tonight).  I'm prone to agree with you, though.

[edit] I think I figured it out.  Come to find out it was a problem between JAVA and Windows 7.  The automatic updater for JAVA had loaded a 32 bit version which was throwing a hissy fit on the 64 bit OS.  I manually updated to 64 bit and everything cleared up with both TW and MC.

I have no idea what the error means.  Thats twisti's department.  Try jumping on the chat-6th icon from the left near the top of the screen.

A quick fix that has worked in the past is to try launching the game through the web start.  It is found near the top of your profile-3rd icon from the right same row

hope this helps

I talked to Twisti.  He is working on fixing the bug.

In the meantime, use the webstart client.  Go to profile, and it's the Play now button near the top.

Sorry about this, you can still play through the webstart.

I'm not sure if this is a bug on the client or the server. When I have a fully grown Maso Bamboo plant on the ground, I am able to plant a new shoot on top of it. This only works with Maso Bamboo Shoots. It does not work with tree seeds.

You are right on that.  The wiki is sadly outdated and dosen't feature much tw2 stuff in it.  Better to just make a post or ask, if you have a question about anything.

I think the topic is in General Support but if you look around I have a topic for wiki requests.  New players are great for recommending things that need to be added or changed because us older players often forget that things need to be fixed.

Thanks!

Double-chat client crash oh my!

When letting my computer go to sleep with JTWC open and the chat tab checked, when I come back the chat is frozen. If I de-select the chat, wait a few minutes, then let it pop back up again on the game client, I reconnect, but all messages are shown twice. A short time later my client crashes and tells me to report the bug. I am using the Mac client instead of the windows client.

I just returned after about 2 years of inactivity.

I've downloaded the new client, I was able to connect, everything seemed to work well... But after every like 10-20 actions the client loses sync and stops updating the GUI -> I need to restart the client and then I see all previous actions performed.

OS: Win 8.1
Java: latest x64

I'll try to connect wireshark today to find out if it is a client issue, or I don't get response from the server at all.

EDIT: checked with wireshark, I'm getting the response from server, but clients still doesn't update anything
