They think that if he remains dead, peace will remain because of the contract that God made with the rest of the world. If Jesus was dead, there was peace on earth. The Romans made a play on words and, thus, easter is celebrated in the spring.

It's just a catholic legend that Peter was the first pope. In reality it took few hundred years until the first pope.
