My laptop is broken but I need to get all the information off the hard drive. How would I go about this.

P.S. My laptop can't charge, but if it could charge it would work

See if you can't get an adapter so that you don't need the battery to keep it going.
Or see if a friend has a laptop very similar and see if you can't use gmail to transmit a few gigabytes at a time to a new place.

many laptop are able to run w/o the battery in it. try taking the battery out and wsee if it'll run off AC

Laptops have very little compatibility. If you can find another laptop of the exact same make & model, then yes, it'll fit.

wrong. laptop hard drives are standardized. you can get an external drive enclosure off Newegg or something and just plug the thing into another computer like an external HD

depends. anywhere from $30 for a cheezy one to a hundred bucks for a l33t one. I used a setup like that to get the TW server files Wink

Anyhow, be very careful handling hard drives, they are very sensitive pieces of machinery. If you have a computer nerd friend, call him/her and have them help you.

powerbook? wtf... well, you've got make sure it's for the proper HD size, and that it's IDE or SATA. you will be able to find an enclosure to fit your drive, but not all enclosures will work.

Seriously, they're standardized? I have 3 laptops, all different ages, and none of the HDs are even close to compatable. Is the standardization new? Because you'd think it'd be hard to standardize that sort of thing, considering the space-saving technology is still advancing...
