Seriously, they're standardized? I have 3 laptops, all different ages, and none of the HDs are even close to compatable. Is the standardization new? Because you'd think it'd be hard to standardize that sort of thing, considering the space-saving technology is still advancing...

Every laptop I've worked with had a HD similar to this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822149030
An appropriate enclosure would be:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817145329 (There is some sort of special on this one)

I'd say if you laptop is between 6 months-2.5 years old, it probably has one of these....

My newest has one very similar to that. My other two are probably too old, because neither of those has one of those, and I guess that would explain it ^_^

You don't have a warranty with it?  Apple usually has excellent warranty service.

well, they gave me a shit box and refused to fix it.

1st month went well.

2nd, 3rd, and 4th was at the local shop getting "so-called" fixed, because the screen went black.

Was good for another four months.

9th month the cd-rom stopped working. Once again I brought it in to get fixed at the local APPLE RECOMMENDED dealer to fix. And once again i had to wait extremely long.

10th month still haven't got it back. During all this I am calling them to see the status.

11th month good, 12th month good.

WARRANTY EXPIRES

4 days later- Back light goes out again. My father gets them to fix it on guilt and 4 hours on the telephone. Given this is what he does for a living, they agreed to fix it.

This time we go to a new dealer and this dealer tells us that the inside of the computer has tons of stripped bolts and has basically been treated like shit by the dealer who had it before and say that they wont fix it to save their own ass.

So we have to send it directly to apple. We did.

Two weeks later comes back my computer. Everything is fixed well at least until the battery ran out, because it came back unchargeable and pretty much FUCKED.

SO I HATE APPLE.

this all happened in my first semester of college where I went to a 3d design school and video editing which you are pretty much fucked without a laptop. Had to write all my papers in pen and get bitched at because supposedly I can use the school computers that are open a whole two fucking hours a day. During this I have a full time job waiting tables at the olive garden, to pay for this fucking school.

Suffice to say I dropped out at the end of the first semester after I didn't learn a fucking thing except that I am more skilled in 3d animation then my teachers are and that they should pay me to teach the fucking classes.

Alright I guess I'm done bitching.

What he said.
The only apples worth buying are ones that you eat. The rest are just too costly for their worthlessness and incompatability.

Try File Scavenger.

It is a free download.  I just got it from a person who retrieved all files from a damaged drive.
