It would take longer then a day - I'd say at least a week, you have to wait for the server response every time (if you're using a legal client anyway). Even if you manage 1 a second (I think it normally takes longer than this), 1,048,576 tries would take 1048576/(60*60*24) ~ 12 days.

In any case, unless you're going on holiday for a while (and leaving you macro seriously unattended), it would actually be quicker to answer it by hand.

I don't think it'd matter either way, since you'd be banned after 5 minutes, heh  Wink

aye - but that doesn't invalidate any of the hypothetical analysis, just renders it pointless. We play Toadwater, we have no compunction against pointless activities.

Serious, twist? Is that true right now, or is it just a thought?

Oh, and what about screen scrapers?

I don't know what a "screen scraper" is, but yes, the 10 tries limit is true last I know. Haven't tried it for a while, but I see no reason to assume that behavior was changed.

If the pop-ups are prompted from the server, it could be assumed that a specialist macro could simply scan the packet (Toadwater doesn't use much bandwidth, wouldn't be hard to scan each packet) and find the correct answer to the popup, then input it into the text field.

If it's client-side, a little reverse compiling/hex editing and there you go.

Im rather sure that the server doesn't just send the correct answer along with the captcha in a packet. It is all validated on the servers end, and the correct answer to the popup is never sent to the client. That would just be ridiculous.

Give the admins a little credit.

The captcha is done completely server side, the only information sent to the client is the captcha image URL, which is scrambled anyway so that wouldn't help much.

Yeah, other than trying to get OCR software to decipher it, there is no way. Sorry.

other than BEING AT YOUR COMPUTER  Shocked Shocked

Or having it send the picture to your palm pilot whenever you get a pop-up, and sending the answer back from wherever you are =P
