I don't see the Development Suggestions thread anymore so I figured I'd just go ahead and throw my thought in here.  I don't know exactly how to level combat at the moment, so if there is a way please fill me in.  I did come up with an idea that could be implemented for gaining skill in it. Since posts currently have no use, we could set a post in the ground and then attempt to lasso it for combat xp.  Almost like training for lassoing a raider or opponent.  Just as cowboys lasso stationary things to practice before going after the bull, or calf actually, so we dwarves can lasso a post set in the ground.  Every use of the lasso breaks it, or every 5 or so.  To lessen the number of lassos lost, it could only break when a successful lasso ccurs on the post, saying something along the lines of  "you were so proud of your successful lasso that you leave it around the post as a trophy."  The higher the lvl the post the harder it is to lasso and the more experience you get.  Since there is only one level rope this would help for an increase in skill.  this would perform two actions at once, give a use for posts (which I still believe don't have a use) and allow for skill ups in combat.  Again, I do not personally know a way to level combat, but if you know please fill me in.  The only method I know of is to lasso a mule, and for those who do not have mules, or who don't keep all their characters in the same place (as is my case) , there is no way to level combat.  I hope that I've presented my thought well enough that perhaps enough people support my idea.

Thanks for clearing that up Tom and clatra I read the combat information after making this post.  So I will admit fault there, however, I still think it would be a cool addition to the game with the post/lasso idea.  Who knows, but thanks again for the responses.
