The map would exclusively show open land and the single outer layer of fencing. Nobody would be able to look inside anyone's bases, but it would be possible to find open land much more easily. (Hint: there is none at the moment). The map would only update once every few weeks, not in real time.

Edit: Clatra asked me to remove the comment about there not being open land. She is convinced that there is going to be enough open land soon. So vote "Yes", and you can see where this open land is right away to get some of it for yourself.

There will be open land soon -- pay no attention to the doomsayers.

That's going to be great for people who don't know where and have to spend a week scouring every continent. I bet they get a nice and juicy piece.

This map, would the outer layer of fencing reveal the owners name?

No, of course not. It's a map of all of Toadwater - it's already big enough as it is.

So long as no personal information is divulged, I think it is a great idea.

Obviously, all the information is information you could easily gather manually.

Nobody would be able to look inside anyone's bases,
If there were a bug in the mapmaker program that showed inside someone's base, what sort of protection would the admins provide to the base's resident(s)?

A map, while interesting, has the potential to be misused. One example from personal experience: let's say I want to raid misterpoojangles but I know his base is surrounded by other bases. A new map is published showing fencing of a neighbor's base has fallen so I high-tail it over there and build a raiding base consisting of some pigeons and outhouses surrounded by fencing. Voila, the map has just made it easier for me to conduct a sustained, efficient raid.

For the few players who do not see raiding as a bad thing, a continually updated map is a wonderful resource.

Is this map going to be mostly human made? I have a feeling that trying to get a computer to recognize the inside of a base will be hard.

The map is human man. If you cant for the algorithm I used, here is how:

The entire map is read and each tile is turned into a pixel. At first, only land and fences are read. Then, a flood fill is originated in every noob world and stretches out to reach every spot a person could walk to. Next, all fence but the ones right next to a plot you could walk on are removed (so people can't see how many layers someone has). Lastly, things such as trees, outhouses etc are loaded (again, only for the visible land).

Cool! That would even account for bases made of multiple people's fences. I like!

Obviously. I wouldn't want to publish a map where, for example, everyone could see that someone was racing to close a fence line and was only missing a few pieces. Or let everyone see the inside of someones base just because they happened to remove a fence to upgrade it the moment I ran the map update. That'd just be mean.

I hate that map from the guide. Its like trying to read chinese without knowing how to. I would love a map of the world. Dont really care about the showing of fences cause if you have been here long enough you know that most of the people worth raiding have 3 layers of the highest grade fencing they or their workers can make. So yeah kind of pointless. Plus it might convince me to jump from cloud world but not without first becoming the first god in cloud world. After that then maybe.

FYI: For those that know what Im talking about I'm now rank 193 and dropping anywhere from 3 to 5 ranks per log on and play. So only 183 ranks left. So I'm shooting for about a month or 2 more for god.
