I am experimenting with a new idea about lowering the action times to make the game more flowing for new players.  I have no idea how this will work out but as a small experiment to see how this works this Saturday, at noon Central Time (-6 UTC) there will be a twenty four edict with one second whittling times.  I appreciate all feedback on this crazy idea.

As a rough way to balance this all whittling actions will give 50% whittling experience during this event.  Please do not buy any quench or whittling edicts during the one second actions, it's already crazy without that.

Happy whittling Saturday!

It only takes one second to whittle an item instead of the usual five seconds.

Feedback
Overall, this is an interesting concept that starts down a road that would *significantly* change Toadwater. My feedback will include a lot of suggestions with the intent of balancing the idea of 1-second whittling assuming it gets implemented permanently. This doesn't mean I necessarily endorse implementing it permanently - just what I think would need to happen if it were to be. Smiley

* This puts a lot of stress on wood supply. I think this is a good thing, although probably not to this extent. For consuming wood 5x as fast, it would probably be nice to have ~2x as much wood available. This can be achieved by reducing planting/chopping timers. Perhaps chopping down to 1 second and planting down to 0.5 seconds. Yes, this invalidates the forestry herbs and the diminished delays edict. Can change the edict effect to something like: 1/5 health cost when planting trees. 50% chance to not consume a seed when planting trees. The forestry herbs can be a much lesser version of this effect (and maybe just the health cost part of it). But even with these changes, people would overall have greater stress on their wood supply. Which I think is a good thing because it means people will actually whittle a greater portion of their wood before selling it. Also note that the diminished planting/chopping times means people will likely require larger bases (at least twice as large if not more so) to maintain their wood supplies. Also a good thing, because we have a lot of unused space in the world.

* This puts a lot of stress on GP supply. This is perhaps far more of a problem than the wood supply problem because even with 5-second whittling, GP supply tends to be pretty tight for players that have stopped farming peppers long ago. An easy fix would be to make whittling consume less thirst per item whittled. Maybe even 1/5 less of the thirst consumption to completely neutralize this effect. Note that this is a better alternative than making GPs easier to obtain because doing so would have rippling effects in other parts of the game like Farming exp gains, Poo skill gains, outhouses filling faster, etc etc.

* Slight note: The diminished exp after whittling too much without thirst is now pretty crazy. On the one hand, you can ask players to just always whittle with thirst. But I think this penalty should be reduced as well. Maybe cut to 1/3 it's current rate.

* Time spent eating, e.g. for buffing or healing, is now way more significant/annoying. Reduce eating timers to 1 second or less.

* Health cost: 1-second whittling burns health very rapidly. At level 225 whittling level 25 planks, it's bearable while standing on an ancient healing tree. My health drops down to around 150 before ticking back to full. Not bad. I'm not sure how the health cost feels for other players with different levels or plank levels. Overall, it's kind of fun speeding through health like this. But I think the ticker for auto-healing on trees should be cut in half just to be safe (which still leaves plenty of increased pressure on health). Note that other skills reducing their timers from 5 seconds to 1 second will probably put MUCH greater stress on health than whittling ever will.

* Pooping. This is actually a considerable problem with the current system. Weak knees feels like an eternity: I have to eat a ton to sustain whittling in the outhouse. Also 1 hour anal spasms are insane. But if Thirst consumption is lowered to 1/5 of its current rate, these problems will go away entirely.

* Latency: This is a big one. Looking at 1 minute worth of my logs, it looks like whittling planks is taking me around 1.43 seconds a piece. With 1 second action timers, latency is a significant portion of the time taken per action. Since players experience widely different latencies, this isn't exactly "fair". Unless there is some recoding effort to make TW latency-invariant, then timers should probably not be reduced all the way down to 1 second. Maybe 2.5 or 2.0 seconds for actions currently at 4-5 seconds. (although making TW latency-invariant would still be an all-around benefit regardless of what happens with timers).

I'll edit this post with more feedback later. Probably.

Mind you we aren't married to 1s - we could halve all delays, or halve only the ones over 1s, or all kinds of things.

This 1 second buff would make a pretty cool tonic recipe or some kind of buff item. good way for users who find themselves with a lot of wood to use it up quickly. Although if it's a high level buff it might defeat the purpose of the original idea to make things more noob friendly :S

Very much like the edict but if this is to become a regular thing I would prefer it be called something other than 'Santa's Secret Gift'   Tongue

Otherwise quite awesome, yup
